Happy 100th

It has been far too long since I sat down at my keyboard. Me and mine are well, just busy. I have no idea how people manage to faithfully post, day after day, week after week. I need a few more hours added to each one. Busy cleaning what feels like centuries of junk out of the new place, digging (then re digging when I realized there wasn't enough sun) new flower and gardening beds, visits from friends and family, wiring the outside - fountain back up and running, check- and cutting the grass. (three times so far this year and it's not even June. That was a whole year of grass cutting at the old place, LOL)

However, things come up that can't be ignored and just need to be celebrated. An aunt and uncle's 25th wedding anniversary at the start of this month, another 50th on the 1st of June and of course Stasha's 100th Listicle. Hurray for Stasha and a big high five and fist bump on your 100th.

I tried to think of a suitable list to commemorate the occasion but the weather has been sunny and warm, (when it's not been hailing, snowing and miserable. Welcome to May in Canada) the BBQ has been fired up, beer has been flowing on the deck and of course the appropriate beats have been dancing around in my head to accompany all this outdoor activity. So that's my list, the sounds of summer.

1 Summertime, the 1935 classic from Porgy and Bess. My favourite rendition is still from a recording of the opera but so many fantastic artists have sung this song....

2 Summer Nights  from the 1978 Grease soundtrack. Loved the movie and the soundtrack as a tween.

3 Love Tonight by Lime, 1982. The summer I spent in Trois Rivieres, this song was huge. Every time I hear it it makes me smile.

4 Walkin' on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves, 1983. I hate this song. Yes it's perky and upbeat but every summer since it's release someone digs this out and starts playing it. Less is more, that's all I'm saying.

5 Touch Me by Cathy Dennis, 1984. She was all over the club circuit my first year in Toronto. Good times.

6 Love Shack by the B52's, 1989. Big hit from a favourite band.

7 Freedom by George Michael, 1990. Bonus points if you can still name all the supermodels.

8 Where Them Girls At by David Guetta featuring Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj, 2011 It's got tunes floating through the city in gigantic bubbles, how can you resist?

9 Starships by Nicki Minaj, 2012. I'm not a huge fan but this song is summer to me.

10 Good Time by Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City, 2012. Too much fun.

So there you have it, kittens. A small, very small, tiny sampling of my summer sounds. I think I restrained myself quite well all things considered. As a bonus, a no brainer pick for a huge song this summer

Love Somebody by Maroon 5. I am not on team Adam but this song is infectious.

What are your sounds of summer?

Drop by Stasha's and see what every one came up to celebrate her 100th.

You had to know I couldn't give up a music post that easy, ROFL

  6. I went through a B-52 phase, and Love Shack is such a fun song!!!

Hmmm...I guess I would have to add Fresh Prince's 'Summertime' song...I think those lyrics and beat are very catchy, especially the beginning!

    Happy Listicles Monday!

  7. Great list! Actually, I just sang "Walking on Sunshine" with our band on Saturday night at a party to celebrate my pastor and close friend's survival through Stage 3 breast cancer. Such a fun song to sing!!
